Project Overview

Context

As a UX Design Consultant on this project, I provided data-driven recommendations to enhance the web implementation of a new screen for the platform. My role included:

  • User Research: Attending user interviews, advising on interview questions, and recommending contextual interviews and usability testing.
  • UX Recommendations: Assessing features, improving data loading, refining quota display, and optimizing user access requirements.
  • Collaboration: Working alongside PMs, stakeholders, and development team to refine the optimal user experience.

Challenges & Opportunities

Platform Features – Performance Optimization
  • Data Loading
    • Sales Managers: Auto-loads with direct reports.
    • Other Users: Manual loads.
    • Recommendation: Implement the same auto-load for Sales Managers while updating load functionality for other users.
  • View/Edit Access Requirement
    • Changes by one user may interrupt another’s work.
    • Recommendation: Provide users with an option:
      • Longer load time for direct edit mode.
      • Shorter load time for default view mode before entering edit.
  • Quota Display (Account)
    • Users need to see both parent and child quotas.
    • Recommendation: Implement a simplified "view/hide" toggle for better usability.
  • Aggregated Quota
    • Users want a save button for confidence in saving progress.
    • Managers like the option to discard changes.
    • Recommendation: Implement a soft auto-save, but require manual confirmation ("Save"button) for final submission.
Platform Structure & User Flow

The Global Sales Territory & Quota Site operates within an internal quota system, supporting Sales Managers and Incentive Analysts:

  1. Seller Profile Creation: The system assigns incentive elements.
  2. Territory & Quota Design Screen: Heavy data processing due to entitlement checks.
  3. Incentive Plan Letter: Legal documentation.

Pain Points Identified
  • Custom-built design site: Lacks IBM Design consistency.
  • Limited access to end-users: Relationship managed by a global team
  • Slow data retrieval & entitlement checks: Search performance bottlenecks.
  • Nested tree grid structure: Hard to sort, collapse, or rearrange data.

Design Tools & Wireframing
  • Platform: Balsamiq wireframes
  • Key UI Components:
    • Seller Profile → Assigns sellers to territories.
    • Simple vs. Complex Territories→ Rule-based customer assignment.
    • Hybrid Territory Model (New)→ A balance between predefined and flexible rule-based territories.
